Merry Christmas Everyone! My gift to you is a wonderful recipe! I have been busy baking and cleaning for the past several days! I have made shortbread cookies, ginger snaps, chocolate chip cookies, coconut macaroons, pumpkin pie and today I finally made my most favorite dessert ever! Sticky Toffee Pudding, a recipe that came home with me from England. It has become a popular dessert here in the States lately. It was even on a news segment this morning. But none are just like the recipe that my friend Joanne and I brought back from England and the Tower Arms Bank Pub. I am a bit obsessed with fancy bundt pans, so I baked my pudding cake in three different size pans. I drizzled the sauce over the cakes to keep them moist until tomorrow when we will devour them! I added a 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream to the toffee sauce, because it helps it stay more of a sauce and less of a caramel.
Tomorrow, when I serve this dessert, I will put a slice of the cake on a plate and warm it in the microwave for 10 seconds. Then I will drizzle warmed toffee sauce over the slice and also drizzle heavy whipping cream over it. You can add a dollop of whipped cream instead if you like. Yum! I can't wait!! Grab a cup of coffee and have a seat and ENJOY! You will want to lick the plate!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! Tammy

In 1995, a group of four young ladies and artists were sent on a research trip to England. We were all working for Hallmark Cards at the time, now just Joanne and I do. First, we landed in London and we spent a few days going to art museums, shopping and hitting outdoor flea markets. The Victoria and Albert Museum was one of my favorite places, especially the sculpture gallery. I could sit in that room for hours and marvel at the stunning pieces that were carved by the hands of amazing sculptors. I had always loved sculpting, but now I had a new found interest. We are having High Tea. Pictured left to right - Carrie Phillips, Me, Lori Pierson and Joanne Eschrich A train ride into the world of Beatrix PotterThe Buckle Yeat Guest HouseThe Buckle Yeat is just up the street from Beatrix Potter's home called Hill Top. This is where we all stayed while in the Lake District. The Tower Banks ArmsThis pub would be responsible for starting a tradition for me back in the states! Joanne and I decided one evening to go to this pub for coffee one night, it might have even been Irish coffee, I don't quite recall! We decided to have dessert with our coffee and they recommended the Sticky Toffee Pudding, so we tried it! It was divine!!! This dessert made such an impression on Joanne and I that we had to go back for more another night! This time we decided we would ask for the recipe to take home with us. We didn't think they would share it with us, but they did! It is now a tradition that I make it every year at Christmas time. My husband has also become so fond of it that he reminds me that it is time to make it now! I plan making this pudding cake this week and I will photograph it and share the recipe with you in my next entry! It is very unique, but so indulgent that you will want to try it for yourself, with a nice cup of coffee. I will also share more pictures of my trip to Beatrix Potter's Hill Top home and a wonderful story of something else amazing that Joanne and I discovered!
So check back soon!! Tammy I am working on several new pieces for my shop! They are teacup snowmen figurines! Each one has it's own personality, hat and is holding a different item. The hats and scarfs are made from fleece and felt and decorated with fun stitches from my new sewing machine. They are made of paper clay and their arms are pipe cleaners and of course they are covered in glitter! They each sit in cute little child's teacups that I have been collecting.
This large beautiful rabbit was hanging out under my lovely pine tree when I came home today. I snuck up on him quietly to get a photo of him. He had an eye on me the whole time. I had to wonder if he was one of the baby bunnies I rescued in my vegetable garden last spring. I know they can be hard on my gardens, but I just think they are beautiful. They always make me think of Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit. It brings back memories of my time spent in England in the Lake District; visiting where Beatrix lived at Hill Top Farm. It is where many of her books were inspired and the setting appears in many of her books. I traveled to England in 1995 for a work research trip, with three of my co workers, my friend Joanne was one of them. Joanne and I would get up early in the morning to take a walk in the countryside. On the first day, we were both in awe of our surroundings! We literally felt like we needed to pinch each other just to make sure we were not dreaming. That is how stunning the countryside was. As I was sitting here writing this entry I felt compelled to pull out my photo album from this trip! It was such a wonderful trip, Joanne and I still talk about to this day! It has influenced my work in many ways. I am going to scan in some of the pictures from that trip and I will share them and the stories with you in upcoming entries. I will even share a recipe we brought home with us! You will love it as much as Joanne and I do! I love reminiscing!
This year instead of decorating for Halloween, I decided to stick to fall decorations. We usually always have a Halloween party, but this year we decided to do a fall party instead. It was wonderful! Now I can really enjoy my decorations for longer, before I have to take them down to get ready for Christmas! My front door is all decked out for Fall!! I hope everyone has a wonderful Fall and enjoys the amazing weather we have been having!
Don't forget to count your Autumn Blessings!! My Sweet Fox Couple Cake Topper made it to the top of Katie and Tim's wedding cake in Australia! I was so happy Katie sent me pictures of her wonderfully creative wedding cake! It is just beautiful! I love getting to see what my pieces look like in their new environments. Thank you Katie and Tim and may you have a blessed life together! Our maple tree is absolutely gorgeous this year! These are four pictures taken over a few days! I loved pulling into my driveway each day and seeing its beautiful color greet me each evening! I will be really sad when all the beautiful trees drop their leaves, because it means winter is that much closer to arriving! Fall is my favorite season! Happy Fall Everyone! |
Tammy HaddixI created Work of Whimsy as an outlet for my creativity! I create christmas ornaments on my day job. I had so many ideas that I wanted to bring to life and this was the perfect way. I can create whatever I want and if I am lucky there is someone out there that wants to buy it! So far it is going better than I expected! Archives
