This weekend I am preparing to add some Whimsy to my garden! I have decided to try something new.
It is called Espaliered fruit trees. The word espalier is French, and it comes from the Italian spalliera, meaning "something to rest the shoulder (spalla) against." The word refers to the trellis or frame the tree is trained to. In Europe they used this technique inside castles, because they took up very little space. This technique started with the Romans, but the Europeans elevated it to an art form. I plan on planting three trees in a row, two different apple trees and possibly a pear tree. This is a great way to add something whimsical to my garden. I will post pics after I get the trees planted and espaliered. Wish me luck!!

Tammy HaddixI created Work of Whimsy as an outlet for my creativity! I create christmas ornaments on my day job. I had so many ideas that I wanted to bring to life and this was the perfect way. I can create whatever I want and if I am lucky there is someone out there that wants to buy it! So far it is going better than I expected! Archives
